Badass!

It's been a long while since I listened to any new heavy metal rock, and as I said before, it's pretty fucking badass! Truth is, I'm not into reviewing music when compared to flash movies and art, but I know good Audio Portal music when I hear it. With that out of the way...

In terms of singing, it blows Francine Louise and Hania Lee out of the water. Even though the latter has something in terms of actual singing skills, almost all of her songs sound exactly the same. I was really into it and the lyrics were awesome! Plus, I like how you put in the original theme in there, and it also helps that I'm a fan of both of the N64 Banjo-Kazooie games. Then there's the instrumentation, which can make or break a song (check out TFX's songs to see what I mean). I mean, were those actual guitars and drums used? If not, I won't hold it against you because you're just one man. Plus, the composition and timing to the lyrics remind me of '80s metal meets GWAR. (I wish that there were more Gwar flash on here.)

What I do like:
-Cool lyrics
-Excellent singing
-Kickass instrumentation and composition
-Inclusion of the original theme song

What I don't like:
-Short, but if it were longer, that would ruin it.

Overall: Druox the Shredder, how would you like a ten for this?

DruoxtheShredder responds:

The guitars are real, the drums are not.

More annoying than creepy.

TFX, it's been a long time since you last submitted something here, but this wasn't very good. Look, even though I loved your Zero Wing flash when you first created it back in 2001; you pretty much went to shit after 2005 with that Musical Interpretation cartoon. Not to mention, I hate giving bad reviews, especially without a valid reason, but...

In terms of instrumentation, it sounds similar to the samples used in Cave Story and La Mulana, but unfortunately the composition was pretty poor and seemed like you were playing random notes aimlessly. I think some classical music traning for you is in order. Dude, a lot has changed since you submitted that Zero Wing remake in 2003 and while your '05 stuff was good; you are facing stiff competition with Druox the Shredder, Krinkels (who has expanded beyond Madness), Evil-Dog (Punk-o-Matic, Freak), Rick Marin (Primal War), YungJazz (Devilslayer and Necropolis), Nemesis Theory, Sam Haft, Paragon X9, and a whole lot of others. In short, you had an idea for something fresh, but the way it was done is more annoying than creepy.

What I do like:
-Good idea
-Not a remix of an existing song

What I don't like:
-Bad composition and arrangement
-Wouldn't fit in any horror game.

Overall: While this would normally warrant a three or a four from me, I'm going to let you slide with a five out of ten.

TFX responds:

Oh, I didn't know someone had actually replied! I appreciate your review.

The reason why I haven't sent up anything is I haven't had anything worthy of sending up. I know the competition is stiff, don't you worry. Musical Interpretation was just a silly thing.

Thanks again!

Catchy and atmospheric!

I really like the instrumental selection and the composition of this piece; it has a Tales of Phantasia-esque feel to it. For a first song, this is actually better than most people's first songs that were done on a computer (or actual instruments for that matter). Truth is, I usually don't review music often, but due to the paltry ammount of reviews this has; I just had to say what I have to say.

What I do like:
-Nice instrument choices
-Great composition
-Something new and original

What I don't like:
-The fact that this song hasn't been used in any flash movies.

Overall: Helbereth, how would you like a ten for this underappreciated gem of a song?

Helbereth responds:

Thank you, sir (guessing on the sir part).

I kinda forgot I'd even made this. Hearing it again it kinda reminds me of Earthbound in a way. It was fun to make, but I'm really not a musician. Still the praise is appreciated.

Musical excellence!!

Cheshyre, this was fucking awesome in ways that few, if any, can comprehend. I usually don't review music very often, but this is the first time I reviewed a piece from you. With that out of the way...

I like the nice pace that this song has, along with the build ups and other wise choices that you and Krinkels have done. Truth is, I like music that sets moods/atmospheres rather than those that tell stories, and this is coming from someone who likes metal. Plus, I like the individual sounds that you chose, which added to the mood this song, along with the cartoon itself. This is one song that is definitely going into my favorites, but the only problem is the filesize, which will put off those on narrowband connections.

What I like:
-The sound selection
-Nice use of buildups
-Good pacing
-Great atmosphere for what it was meant for

What I don't like:
-The filesize is rather big

Overall: How would you like a ten out of ten, Cheshyre?

cheshyre responds:

I would love it! Thank a bunch! Sorry about the file size, I'll try and keep them down from now on

Great!

I'm surprised that you aren't in more cartoons, Druox. Before Hippolyta, you were a metal musician, and a popular one at that. With that out of the way...

The voices, while not varied enough, are believeable to get the point across. Of course, those samples may be three voices, but for what you were going for, any more would ruin it. However, don't get pissed if you get overlooked in the voice actor category; for every good cartoon/game/song/etc. that gets overlooked, there are hundreds of shitty ones that obviously get ignored.

What I do like:
-Good vocal performances
-Decent voice selection

What I didn't like:
-The voice range seems limited, but then again, I could be wrong.

Overall: Druox the Shredder, here's a nine out of ten, and maybe I could have you in one of my own productions in the future.

Not bad if I do say so myself.

I'm not that much of a music critic, but I kind of like this. However, it feels a bit too drawn out at certain spots (Namely 1:01-1:24). Plus, the emptiness at certain spots, while intentional, also weaken it (1:38-1:50).

What I do like:
-Nice atmosphere
-Good instrumentation

What I don't like:
-Feels empty/drawn out at certain spots.

Overall: Alex, while this isn't bad, it could have used some more work. Here's a 7/10

Not bad by any means, but...

...this feels like this belongs in the Amiga game Lemmings rather than Tankmen even though you used the actual TM instruments. I'm all for rock and roll, but it has too be done right lest it ends up in the shit pile. However, this isn't bad, but could have used more energy and a warlike feel to it.

What I do like:
-Use of the Tankmen theme instrumentation.

What I don't like:
-Feels more like it belongs in Lemmings rather than Tankmen.
-Needs more Oooomph!

Overall: Riftmaster, this obviously is not your best, but what you had here is still decent. Here's a seven.

This is underrated.

It seems that you're a fan of Ms. Swan from Mad TV, which got cancelled I might add. The voices are dead on and the acting is pretty good as well. Personally, I think that you might give Rina-Chan and Princess Aurora some good competition. The only flaw this soundbyte has is it's length, and Ms. Swan could have been emulated better.

What I do like:
-Good acting
-funny

What I don't like:
-Short, but if it were longer that would have nullified the point.
-Ms. Swan was accurate, but could have been better emulated.

Overall: Here's an eight out of ten for re-creating one of MadTV's better sketches before the show went to shit around 2001-2002.

An excellent instrumental piece!

I like music that sets an atmosphere or a mood over music that tells a story these days. Your composition skills are excellent for an everyday guy such as your self, and I like how you mixed a real instrument with sound mixing software. It gave it that dramatic, subtle, moody feel without overdoing it one way or the other. Will we, the audience, ever hear this in one of your cartoons? Only time will tell I guess.

What I like:
-Well thought-out
-Harmonic
-Good sound editing

What I didn't like:
-Well, I can't find any flaws with this piece.

Overall: Here's a ten for something that I felt was rather touching. (Kinda awkward for a song on here, but it's true.)

Not bad, I like it.

I rarely write music reviews here because that isn't my specialty. I can see something like this being used in an RPG of some sort. However, some of the 'darker' parts of the song seemed to drag.

What I like:
-Versatle (can be used in either a game or a movie).
-Well-instrumented

What I didn't like:
-The moodier parts tended to drag.

Overall: Here's an eight from someone who hasn't done a music review in a long time.

Box-Killa responds:

Hmm im not quite sure what well instrumented means exactly. Good instrument choice? The moodier parts are the same in length as the happy parts by the way. Yes to everything else. Thanks for the 8, hope you review more songs now!

I've been on here for over a decade and have a high level, so fucking what? Regarding my MSN and Trillian accounts: Request to be added.
