More things that I'm sick and tired of.

Posted by FightingSeraph - January 8th, 2009

1. Cowboy Bebop: The more I hear about how great it is, the more it pisses me off. Keep in mind that it isn't that original. (Seeing that Faye and Edward (who is a girl I might add) are based on Kei and Yuri; and it also has various other aspects from Dirty Pair.) The only reason this became popular that I can think of is the dubbing.

2. Obesity hype: I'm a skinny person myself, but I have friends who are fat. The truth is that Obesity has more to do with genetics than nutrition or physical activity. It bewilders me that smart people can be tricked/lulled into believing Really stupid things.

3. Obama supporters: I've already commented on them, but this deserves another mention. Just why is it that these people get offended when somebody criticizes his domestic and foreign policies? The vast majority of Obama critics aren't even racist, yet they get lumped with Nazis just for speaking their mind. Look, I disagree with Obama's policies, but I also disagree with right-wing radio hosts as well. Obama and every other president are not objects of worship and it's time people realized that.

4. Sports simulators (example: EA's Madden NFL series): I usually steer clear of these because it's just the same game with various upgrades. Hell, the same could be said of SNK, who takes the same fighting game engine and makes a few tweaks here and there. At least the Mario sports games have actual replay longevity.

5. The Daily Show: Even though I like Jon Stewart as an actor (he was in Big Daddy and Death to Smoochy); as a comedian he's nothing special or interesting. Then again, even with Craig Kilborn, I wasn't impressed with The Daily Show either.

6. The Scary Movie sequels/spinoffs: Even though I liked the first Scary Movie, everything after that was unfunny and poorly-thought out. Not to mention that David Cross was in Scary Movie 2. At least 18 Fingers of Death (which didn't get a theater release) didn't involve Aaron Seltzer, Jason Friedman, or the washed-up Zucker brothers.

7. Symbolism/Social criticism in movies: Look, just because a movie has some sort of satire, commentary, or symbolism does not mean that it's instantly better than a film that has none of the aforementioned. Political and Cultural satire has become oversaturated, and as a result, lost its status as the pinnacle of comedy thanks to Comedy Central, Michelle Malkin, Sirkowski (no offence, but I'm just speaking my mind), Foamy's rant, and various other log sites. However, Maddox still does some great stuff even though some of the arguments he makes are not that well articulated.

8. Futurama: I don't really care for this show and didn't have the wit that The Simpsons had. Then again, Family Guy wasn't impressive either.
