Michael Barrier - I've been reading this guy's site for months now, and have to say that it's wonderful. Edit: Here's something from his site worth reading:

I have always been a fan of Evil Dave since I first discovered this site thirteen years ago, and it saddens me that there are far too few people who remember him and what he and Pirata Cobra did all those years ago. Truth is, his brand of raw, cynical crudeness is sorely needed these days.

Oh, and here's a Freeware Flash player for Amiga: http://abalaban.free.fr/swfplayer.html

The song that plays in this video is Hello 31337 by Hisayoshi Ogura, and it's the best example of Techno I have ever heard so far. (or is it Trance?)

I wonder if this was the influence on that Wasted Sky game that Tom did thirteen years ago...

Darius 2 was released in the west as Sagaia and had two-screen and three-screen versions.

The first of two home system exclusives, Darius Twin had a two-player mode which the ports of the first two games didn't have.

Darius Force was released as Super Nova in the west, and was a single-player experience that featured improved graphics and sound.

Metal Black was originally intended to be Darius 3, but was changed early in development.

Darius Gaiden was an example of the console version finally matching the arcade original.

G-Darius moved to realtime 3D and was a prequel to the first game.

Darius Burst started out as a PSP exclusive, but got and arcade version soon after called Another Chronicle.

By the way, am I the only person on here who actually knows about this series.

Osomatsu-Kun ('60s version)

Created by Fujio Akatsuka in 1962, this is one of the first gag manga to have existed. I thank Charles Brubaker for discovering this and our next video. http://cartoonresearch.com/index.php/osomatsu-ku n/

Sazae-San

This particular TV cartoon has been in production since 1969 and still uses painted cels. It can be summed up as Japan's answer to the Simpsons, but with better animation. http://cartoonresearch.com/index.php/the-longest -running-tv-cartoon-ever/

Sally Sargent

This is one of the last cartoons that Terrytoons made that had a well-animated intro.

Al Capp's Li'l Abner

This half-assed attempt at adapting Al Capp's famous strip proved that:
1. Dave Fleischer couldn't stop Screen Gems cartoons from sucking cock. (Neither could Bob Wickersham, Frank Tashlin, Alex Lovy, Cal Howard, Ray Katz, Henry Binder, Bob Clampett, Sid Marcus, or Art Davis.)
2. Alec Geiss and Allen Rose were the '40s equivalent of Notorious Milkshake. (As in lacking in direction skills, animation skills, and comedic talent.)

The Mighty Heroes

Here's one show that Ralph Bakshi created for Terrytoons that lasted for one season.

Fractured Fables - The Fuz

Here's another Bakshi short, this time it's one of the last Fleischer/Famous/Paramount cartoons.

Mister Magoo

Here's the series that put the forgotten UPA/United Film studio in the spotlight.

Chimp and Zee

Here's a Merrie Melody/Looney Tune from the '60s that was created by Alex Lovy and had great music by Bill Lava.

Cool Cat

This was the last serialized character in Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies, and this episode was the last cartoon that Bob McKimson, Bob Givens, and Cal Howard did for the studio. (McKimson died from a heart attack after finishing Pink Panther 076 while eating lunch with Friz Freleng and David DePatie.)

The Man from Button Willow (1965)

I have to thank Michael Sporn for digging up this underrated gem.

George Orwell's Animal Farm (1954)

This was found by Raoul Duke from ConceptArt.org, and I liked the first fifth of this so far.

The Phantom Tollbooth (1969-1970)

This was Chuck Jones' second feature that he directed, and I do recall seeing this when I was six or seven. However, Chuck thought it was somehow a good idea to make some last minute tweaks to his liking. If that wasn't enough, he just got worse and worse after this was made.

Song of The South (1946)

Now here's the most maligned movie that Disney has ever produced. A lot of people misinterpret this as racist, but it was never intended to be such. For the record, I'd rather watch this over whatever Disney, Pixar, and Studio Ghibli are coming out with these days.

Wizards (1977)

Michael Barrier has criticized Ralph Bakshi for this and Lord of the Rings when they hit theaters. However, Bakshi did these for the same reason he did his city films: to change the kinds of stories that animation had told considering that his city films were being tossed out due to controversy. Edit: Here's Barrier's scathing review of Wizards: http://www.michaelbarrier.com/Funnyworld/Raggedy AnnReview/RaggedyAnnReview1.html

For anyone who is interested, I happen to read other users' reviews on a regular basis on Newgrounds. I don't always agree with them, but I can respect those who put forth a decent effort without looking like condescending, didactic, pompous assholes. Those are the people who know what they are talking about and deserve to be listened to. With that out of the way...

1. André Nguyen (Gel): Even though he hasn't been on here in a long time; everything he has done shows that he is incredibly skilled in basically every criteria, as well as extremely observant. Too bad he's so backlogged with work because I wouldn't mind either A) his critical eye, and B) a potential collaborator.
2. Egoraptor: Of course he was an obvious choice for this list, but to not include him just wouldn't be right. Aside from being extremely talented; he also knows what not to do when working on his projects unlike various other creators who have less talent or seemingly non-existent artistic restraint.
3. PsychicPebble: While many people have accused him of being a hypocrite on various occasions; I have to give him credit for explaining what's good or bad about a submission in detail. However, like the aforementioned, the amount of music reviews he wrote are obscenely low.
4. DiMono: I don't know if he's a legitimate game programmer or not, but he does have the eye for game design judging from what he wrote. In addition, he is also a great voice actor and musician.
5. Zafrece: I just met this guy recently, and haven't listened to all of his songs. However, his review of my minimal techno attempt was very helpful and informative. However, it would be nice of him and most of the Audio Portal guys to review more movies, games, and art.
6. The Review Request Club: Am I the only person who legitimately appreciate these guys for taking time off of their lives just to provide honest input on random submissions of random quality? I mean, they're better at writing reviews than I am and can crank them out astonishingly quick.
7. Ericho: As said before, I don't agree with him all the time and has really questionable taste in submissions. However, I can still respect him seeing that he does more than leave one or two measly sentences.
8. Exedor: Again, I don't agree with him on everything, but considering that he's 40 years old and is a pretty good draftsman.

Oh, and here's a some more commentary material just for the hell of it:

Edit: Here's a cool Psytrance playlist I found:

Here's an old Giant Robot movie from 1990 that had great effects work. Maybe Mindchamber, Hyptosis, Zeedox, or 1600 could look into this.

1. Hugo Chavez' death: Well, it looks like his supporters feared that this would happen considering that he had prostate cancer. However, I do not support Chavez considering that he has done more harm than good for Venezuela. After reading what Zanroth said, and what the Cato Institute have posted; I can say that I cannot talk myself into believing that his death was necessarily a bad thing. For those who are wondering, I think you need to read these:
http://www.cato.org/blog/chavez-record
http://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/chav ezs-grim-legacy
http://www.cato.org/blog/hugo-chavezs-last-days

2. Eddsworld: I am going to be honest with you people: I don't really care for Edd Gould, and after seeing three of his cartoons; he wasn't funny or impressive. Honestly, this series is practically a British version of Tomorrow's Nobodies and Baron von Brunk, but without the humor and voices that are so bland and generic that it's baffling that people find this funny. On the other hand, that song Edd did was pretty good and he was reportedly a nice guy.

3. Coal Black and De Sebben Dwarves: A lot of people will hate me for bringing this up, but I thought this cartoon was fuckin' hilarious. Like what Chakra-X did with Captain Ig'nant, Catoblepas with Michael Jackson's End, and Gonzossm with Black Sunshine, it's just one of those cartoons that is both exceptionally well-done and extremely polarizing. What made it so polarizing was the following: 1. Most of the jokes were written by black musicians, 2. It was made (and took place) in the segregation era, and 3. the obvious stereotype gags. I mean, if it's ok for Sirkowski and Ebolaworld to have generic, unfunny southern stereotypes in their generic, unfunny cartoons; then this Bob Clampett cartoon is ok in my book.

4. Coonskin (1974 Ralph Bakshi film): Another extremely polarizing film worth discussing is this feature by Ralph Bakshi. While it isn't as good as Heavy Traffic or Fritz the Cat; I still consider it to be an enjoyable movie. It took a lot of balls to not only trash the obvious bigots in this film, but to go after those on the other side as well. You have to give Bakshi credit for taking a multi-faceted approach on that theme. If anything, it's much more enjoyable than Ghost In The Shell, Transformers: the Movie (1986), and most of Studio Ghibli's movies.

5. Darkstep and Neurofunk: I've been listening to a bunch of these D&B songs and will say that these are two kickass genres. If anyone is curious, they can learn about it at http://www.darkstep.org. One more thing, I'm working on one track for each genre mentioned.

6. Friz Freleng's Pink Panther cartoons: I never really cared for the movies that inspired this series, nor what Freleng did during 1957-1963. However, I am really fond of these cartoons for the following reasons:
One: Great layouts
Two: Best example of limited animation
Three: Funny most of the time.
Four: Excellent music by Henry Mancini, Bill Lava, and Walter Greene.
Too bad that the Blue Racer and Tijuana Toads cartoons weren't as funny, along with the fact that the DePatie-Freleng studio got worse and worse over the years.

7. New Games for old systems: Am I the only person on this site who is aware of this going on? Examples include:
-GunLord (Neo Geo and Dreamcast)
-Pier Solar (Sega Genesis)
-Soulless (Commodore 64)
-Zaku (Atari Lynx)
-Streamerz 2 (NES)
I think that people on NG should consider looking into this, especially the staff. And besides, I'd rather take a new game for an old system that's exceptionally well-done over something made for the current systems and their successors but flat out sucks.

8. Apple blocking The Best Page in the Universe from their stores: Yep, Maddox got blocked by Apple computer for his years-old criticisms towards Mac users and the iPhone.

On one hand, they can get away with it since they aren't part of the government. On the other, blocking this website just for a pair of scathing criticisms is pernicious. It's not like he had porn or a guide on how to make bombs.
